At least three officers have been killed in an explosion at a police training center in Los Angeles, United States. The blast occurred at the county sheriff`s department training facility, and investigators fear the number of casualties could rise.
The powerful explosion rocked the Los Angeles County Sheriff`s Department Biscailuz Training Center at around 7:30 AM local time on Friday, July 18, causing tremors in the surrounding areas.
Police confirmed that several sheriff`s deputies died in the incident. The training center, located on Eastern Avenue, houses the Sheriff`s Special Enforcement Bureau`s bomb squad and its base.
While initial reports suggested the possibility of more casualties, police officer Robert Luna stated that no additional injuries were reported. In a press conference, he described the incident as an isolated event and said the exact cause would be known after the investigation concludes.
The police officer added, "We still don`t know many things. But our goal is to verify everything from the beginning and find the cause of this tragic accident. The investigation has already begun, and we hope to have all the information soon."
However, preliminary investigations indicate the explosion originated from a bomb placed in a vehicle. Multiple police teams, including the local bomb disposal unit and the FBI, arrived at the scene and began their investigation. Police and bomb experts cordoned off the entire area to conduct rescue operations and searches.
Los Angeles police have not provided detailed information regarding the cause of the explosion. A police source claimed that they are investigating whether any militant organization was involved in the incident.
