The curfew imposed in Gopalganj following a series of attacks and clashes surrounding a National Citizen Party (NCP) rally has been temporarily lifted until 8:00 PM on Saturday.
The curfew was enforced after violent incidents involving Awami League and banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, resulting in at least five deaths.
Gopalganj`s District Commissioner and Magistrate, Mohammad Kamrul Zaman, confirmed the matter on Friday night, announcing that the curfew will be relaxed from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Saturday.

The district administration further stated that future decisions regarding the curfew will depend on consultations with law enforcement agencies, as well as an assessment of the security situation in Gopalganj.
The violence began on Wednesday during the NCP’s rally, leading to multiple clashes, arson, and grenade explosions in different areas of the city. In response to the worsening situation, the district magistrate initially imposed Section 144, followed by a curfew from 6:00 PM that evening.
On Thursday, Dhaka Division Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury extended the curfew after a briefing at the District Commissioner’s office, initially until 6:00 PM on Friday. During that period, the curfew was relaxed for a three-hour window, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
The curfew was then extended again, this time until 6:00 AM on Saturday. The most recent announcement confirmed that the curfew will remain relaxed until 8:00 PM today.
Authorities have stated that any further adjustments to the curfew will be made based on the evolving situation and continued discussions with security forces.
