Protest and rally held against attack on Chhatra Shibir at Dhaka Polytechnic
  Date : 03-03-2026

Special Correspondent: A protest rally and demonstration were held at the South Gate of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute on Tuesday (March 3) against the armed attack by Chhatra Dal on regular students and Chhatra Shibir leaders and activists. The event was organized by the Dhaka Metropolitan North branch of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir.

The main guest at the event was Azizar Rahman Azad, Central Secretariat Secretary. Special guests included Mu. Mutasim Billah Shahedi, Central Media Secretary; Saidul Islam, Central Literature Secretary; and S M Farhad, Central Publicity Secretary and DUCSU GS.

In his speech, Azizar Rahman Azad said, "When the 1990 movement first started in this country, it created opportunities for violence, guest room politics, hall occupation, tyranny, and death politics on campuses. Similarly, Chhatra Dal has started doing the same things in every campus before and after the 2026 movement."

He appealed to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the patron of Chhatra Dal, saying, "Decide what your terrorist organization Chhatra Dal should do. If you cannot control your organization, expel them. If you want to keep the organization, form committees with regular students, excluding outsiders and non-students, in every university according to the rules."

Mutasim Billah Shahedi, Central Media Secretary, said, "The attack on students with sharp weapons is not acceptable in any educational institution. Despite informing the administration about the possibility of weapons, no effective action was taken."

S M Farhad, Central Publicity Secretary and DUCSU GS, said, "Chhatra Dal is trying to follow the same tactics as the Awami narrative we have seen for the past 15 years, creating stories by surrounding themselves. We are witnessing Chhatra Dal`s dirty politics of shifting the blame to Chhatra Shibir."

Speakers at the rally also said that Islami Chhatra Shibir believes in peaceful and orderly student politics. The organization`s activities cannot be stopped through attacks, torture, and intimidation. They demanded that the administration take swift action to arrest the perpetrators and ensure a peaceful environment on campus.
