LONDON, August 13, 2026: Persistent power cuts and a worsening law-and-order situation have made daily life increasingly difficult for people across Bangladesh, said Muhammad Muntassir Ali, joint secretary-general of Khelafat Majlis.

He called on the authorities to take immediate and effective measures to curb crime, ensure public safety and restore uninterrupted electricity supplies across the country.

Muntassir Ali made the remarks while addressing a meeting of officials of the Khelafat Majlis UK South branch at the organisation’s London office. The meeting was chaired by the branch president, Maulana Sadikur Rahman, and conducted by its general secretary, Maulana Abdul Karim Mamrohani.

Speaking about the recent triple murder in Sylhet, Muntassir Ali strongly condemned the incident and expressed concern over what he described as a decline in the visible effectiveness of law-enforcement agencies.

He said people had not expected such a deadly incident to take place in broad daylight following the mass uprising of 2024. According to him, a weakening of law-enforcement activities in Dhaka and elsewhere has contributed to a growing sense of insecurity among ordinary citizens.

The Khelafat Majlis leader also focused on the country’s electricity crisis, saying the scale of load-shedding had reached an alarming level.

He said frequent power outages were disrupting normal life, making it difficult for students to study and placing additional pressure on families. Businesses, factories and small industries were also suffering as interruptions to electricity supplies affected production and increased financial losses, he added.

“People need relief from this suffocating situation through practical measures, not merely assurances,” he said, urging the authorities to address both the security situation and the power crisis without delay.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Hafiz Maulana Enamul Haque, Sheikh Mustak Ahmad, Abdul Karim Ubaid, Hafiz Kamrul Hasan Khan, Maulana Abdul Ahad, Dr Ahzabul Haque, Hafiz Maulana Qazi Abdur Rahman, Fuzayel Ahmad Nazmul, Maulana Nurul Amin Munna and Tawfiqur Islam Sabir.

The remarks come amid growing public concern over two basic issues affecting everyday life—personal security and reliable access to electricity. While law enforcement is responsible for protecting citizens from crime, uninterrupted power supply remains essential for education, healthcare, business, industry and household activities.

Muntassir Ali’s call therefore centres on immediate government action on both fronts: strengthening public security and taking effective steps to bring the power situation under control.
