The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has decided to form an “investigation and fact-finding committee” to uncover the underlying reasons behind the brutal murder in the capital`s Mitford area.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the committee members would investigate the incident and disclose the actual facts to the public.
He made the remarks at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Monday (July 14).
Mirza Fakhrul said there is ample reason to suspect that the murder is being used to serve certain political interests, and that the incident may be exploited — possibly at the instigation of certain quarters — to disrupt the environment ahead of the upcoming national election.
He further questioned whether similar public outrage was seen in other gruesome incidents, such as the triple murder in Muradnagar, Cumilla; the attembted murder of an imam in Cumilla; and the murder and mutilation of Jubo Dal leader Mahbub Molla in Khulna.
“There is sufficient reason to believe that the Mitford killing is being used as part of a political conspiracy to destabilise the country,” he added.
The incident, which occurred in broad daylight in front of many people and in close proximity to law enforcement agencies, has sparked serious public concern due to the apparent lack of intervention.
