Jamaat condemns attack on NCP rally, urges immediate arrests
  Date : 17-07-2025

Online Report : Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has strongly condemned the recent attack on the National Citizen Party’s (NCP) pre-announced “March to Gopalganj” programme, calling for the immediate arrest of those responsible.

In a statement issued on Wednesday (July 16), Jamaat Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar blamed what he described as “terrorist collaborators of the fallen Awami fascist regime” for the assault.

He claimed that despite seeking prior administrative cooperation, NCP leaders were attacked in broad daylight while executing their lawful program.

“It is the responsibility of the administration to ensure the safety of all political parties during peaceful demonstrations. Unfortunately, in this case, law enforcement agencies failed to act effectively, which is deeply alarming,” said Porwar.

He emphasized that Gopalganj is an integral part of Bangladesh and must be treated equally in terms of law enforcement and political rights.

Porwar also linked the incident to broader efforts by what he termed the "remnants of the former authoritarian regime" to destabilize the country.

“Though the fascist regime of Sheikh Hasina was overthrown on August 5 by a people’s uprising led by students and citizens, the country is not yet free from fascist influence. This attack—including the use of crude bombs and acts of vandalism—is part of a continued effort to undermine peace and democracy,” he said.

Several police personnel were reportedly injured during the incident. Porwar extended wishes for their speedy recovery and reiterated his call for justice.

“We demand that those involved in this violent attack be arrested without delay and brought under the full force of the law.”

Jamaat also urged the government to ensure equal rights, political freedom, and a safe environment for all parties across the country.
