Ex-DGFI official Manzil placed on fresh 5-day remand
  Date : 16-04-2026

A Dhaka court on Thursday granted a fresh five-day remand for former DGFI officer Manzil Haider Chowdhury in connection with the killing of trader Abdul Wadud during the July uprising in the capital’s New Market area.

Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyas passed the order after Detective Branch (DB) of police sought a seven-day remand. However, the court allowed five days.

According to the case record, Manzil Haider was arrested on April 9 from the DOHS area in Mohakhali. He was first placed on a four-day remand on April 10, followed by another three-day remand on April 13. After completing a total of seven days in custody, investigators produced him before the court again, seeking further remand for interrogation.

The case stems from the killing of Abdul Wadud, who was shot dead on July 19, 2024, during unrest in the Nilkhet area amid the July movement. The case was filed with New Market Police Station by the victim’s brother-in-law, Abdur Rab, naming 130 accused, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and senior leader Obaidul Quader.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
