International Desk: The “China Internet Civilization Conference 2026” opened on May 19 in Nanning, the capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Li Shulei, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Minister of the Publicity Department, attended the opening ceremony.
Participants at the opening session noted that since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping at its core, China has developed a distinctive model of internet governance and has been steadily advancing toward building a strong cyber nation.
They highlighted that General Secretary Xi Jinping has delivered a series of important remarks on internet civilization, which should be thoroughly studied and implemented to guide future development in this field.
It was further emphasized that China’s 15th Five-Year Plan includes comprehensive arrangements for advancing internet civilization. Within this framework, efforts should focus on increasing the supply of high-quality and diverse online content, strengthening long-term governance mechanisms for the online environment, and promoting coordinated development between online and offline civic culture.
Participants also stressed the need to extend moral education, civilized behavior, and cultural initiatives into cyberspace, thereby fostering a healthy and constructive online ecosystem.
The overarching goal, they said, is to build a shared and collaborative internet civilization that better serves the public interest and ensures that digital development contributes more effectively to human well-being.
