Indefinite Sajek road blockade begins
  Date : 15-10-2026

An indefinite blockade has resumed on the Sajek road in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati as two organisations renewed their protest after a 48-hour suspension expired without their demands being met.

The Sajek Gon-Odhikar Rokkha Committee and Sajek Karbari Association called the blockade to press home their three-point demands, including ensuring security in Sajek and removing members of armed groups from the area. They alleged that the administration had failed to take effective steps to meet their demands within the stipulated time.

The blockade began at 6AM on Thursday (October 15).

The organisations had earlier launched a blockade on October 11 over the same demands but suspended the programme for 48 hours following assurances from law enforcement agencies. The resumption of the blockade has raised fresh uncertainty over vehicular movement on the Sajek road.

Meanwhile, Sajek tourist spot remains closed until further notice due to security concerns. Although a large influx of tourists was expected during the Durga Puja holidays, the closure and road blockade have sparked concern among hotel and resort owners, transport workers and other tourism-dependent businesses.

Local residents and tourism stakeholders are awaiting effective administrative measures to restore security in Sajek and reopen the tourist destination.
