Miraz`s all-round brilliance seals innings victory for Bangladesh

Online Report : Mehidy Hasan Miraz delivered a sensational all-round performance by scoring a ton with the bat in second innings before claiming a five-wicket haul with the ball as Bangladesh clinched an innings victory against Zimbabwe at Bir Shrestha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday.

Miraz`s heroics powered the hosts to a comprehensive win on the third day, levelling two-match series 1-1. This victory marks Bangladesh`s first Test win at home after suffering six consecutive defeats.

Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bat first and scored 227 runs in their first innings.

In reply, Bangladesh dominated with the bat by scoring a formidable 444 runs courtesy of two centuries.

Trailing by 217 runs, Zimbabwe`s second innings crumbled as they were bowled out for a mere 111 runs.

That resulted in an innings and 106-run victory for the Tigers.

Facing a significant deficit, Zimbabwe`s top order struggled against Bangladeshi bowlers.

Taijul Islam opened bowling for Bangladesh and continued his impressive form from first innings where he took six wickets.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto`s faith in the left-arm spinner paid off early.

Taijul made the breakthrough in the seventh over when Sadman Islam safely caught an outside edge from Brian Bennett at second slip. The opener departed for 6 runs.

Two balls later, Taijul struck again by dismissing Nick Welch who misjudged a delivery outside off-stump and was struck on the pad.

The umpire initially turned down LBW appeal, but Bangladesh successfully reviewed the decision and sent Welch back for a duck.

Nayeem Hasan joined the wicket-taking party in 11th over. The off-spinner`s turn proved too much for Sean Williams who edged the ball to Sadman Islam at second slip for another excellent catch.

The experienced batter could only manage 7 runs, leaving Zimbabwe at 22 for 3.

Craig Ervine and Ben Curran attempted to steady the innings, but their partnership was broken by Miraz.
In the first ball of the 30th over, Miraz bowled experienced Ervine also dismissed Wesley Madhevere in the same over, caught in slips.

Miraz continued his dominance with the ball in his next over, trapping Tafadzwa Tsiga with a catch to Anamul Bijoy.

As the innings progressed, Miraz became dangerous as he claimed the wickets of Wellington Masakadza and Ben Curran to complete his five-wicket haul in the innings.

This remarkable feat made him only the third Bangladeshi cricketer to score a century and take five wickets in the same Test match.

Towards the end of the innings, Taijul dismissed Richard Ngarava in the 43rd over. The final wicket fell as Masakesa was run out.

Overall, Taijul Islam was the pick of the Bangladeshi bowlers with a match haul of nine wickets, while Miraz supported him brilliantly with five wickets. Nayeem Hasan also contributed with three wickets.
