  Workshop held to enhance fisheries production in Khulna

A regional workshop was held on Friday at District Fisheries Officer’s office in Khulna Metropolitan’s Gallamari Fisheries Production Farm to enhance the capacity and fish production of existing government fisheries farms.

The workshop, part of 2024-2025 fiscal year’s Infrastructure Development Project (Phase 1), aimed to discuss key strategies for modernizing fisheries farms and increasing their productivity at district level.

The workshop was chaired by Md. Jahangir Alam, Director of Department of Fisheries, Khulna Division.

Dr. Md. Abdur Rouf, Director General of Department of Fisheries, attended as the chief guest and emphasized the importance of upgrading the infrastructure and operational effectiveness of government fisheries farms to meet the growing demand for fish production.

Md. Moshiur Rahman, Project Director of Infrastructure Development Project, was present as a special guest, while Md. Anwar Kabir, Senior Assistant Director (Administration-2) of Department of Fisheries, shared insights on administrative support for the project.

Md. Badruljaman, District Fisheries Officer of Khulna and Mostofa Al Aziz, Assistant Director of Department of Fisheries, Khulna, also participated.

The main goal of the workshop was to discuss actionable measures for modernizing existing fisheries farms to boost fish production and operational efficiency.

Key topics addressed included modern farm management techniques, production and supply of high-quality fish fry, disease control and prevention, infrastructure development, and market strategies.

The workshop also aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of field-level fisheries officers through training and to promote cooperation and knowledge exchange between various government fisheries farms.

Md. Selim Sultan, Senior Fisheries Officer of Batiaghata, Khulna managed the overall coordination and smooth running of the event.

The regional workshop is expected to strengthen government fisheries farms and contribute positively to national fish production, supporting both economic growth and food security.
