Repair the Cracks in National Unity to Uproot Fascism and Imperialism: BML

Special Correspondent: Following the downfall and flight of the fascist Hasina regime in the face of a mass uprising, an unprecedented national unity had emerged in the country against foreign aggression and fascism. However, disagreements among some major political parties over issues such as the election timeline, proportional representation (PR), and structural reforms of the state have caused cracks in that unity. Exploiting these cracks, collaborators of the ousted fascist Awami Hasina regime, backed by expansionist India, launched a brutal Baksal-style attack on a pre-announced political program of a certain party on July 16.

Although nearly a year has passed since Sheikh Hasina’s fall, India’s imperialist mindset remains unchanged. This proves that for us, the Brahmanical Indian hegemony is an even bigger threat than Baksal or the Awami League. The late Fazlul Quader Chowdhury had been a long-standing, unwavering voice against Indian domination, inspiring the Muslim League for over a century to wage a resolute and uncompromising struggle. As part of India`s plan to destroy the leadership of the Muslim League, Fazlul Quader Chowdhury was poisoned to death while in custody on July 18, 1973. Not only that—his worthy son, Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, was also later executed through a mock trial for his firm stance against India.

Leaders at the event urged the government to name significant establishments after these patriotic figures to honor their contributions and convey their legacy of patriotism to the new generation.

These remarks were made by leaders at a discussion meeting today (17 July 2025) at 3 PM in the Abdul Salam Hall of the National Press Club, marking the 52nd death anniversary of the late Fazlul Quader Chowdhury—former Speaker of the then Pakistan National Assembly, Acting President, and President of the Pakistan Muslim League. The meeting was chaired by Advocate Mohsin Rashid, President of the Bangladesh Muslim League. Other speakers included veteran politician Barrister Sarwar Hossain, FDA Chairman Dr. A.R. Khan, party Secretary General Kazi Abul Khair, Standing Committee Member Akbar Hossain Pathan, Syed Abdul Hannan Noor, Engineer Giasuddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Sheikh A. Sabur, Additional Secretary General Kazi A.A. Kafi, Maksudur Rahman, Barrister Shafiqul Islam, Organizational Secretary Hasanuzzaman Masud, Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan, Central Leaders Masud Rana, Md. Ali Jinnah, Mamunur Rashid, Captain Anis, Mozakker Bari, Shafiqul Islam Javed, Munjurul Islam, among others.

Strongly demanding the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the attackers on the NCP’s program in Gopalganj, the leaders warned that if the political parties supporting the mass uprising fail to unite beyond their divisions, it could create a path for the fascists to reestablish themselves. Without an elected government, it is not possible to uproot fascism or confront foreign aggression effectively. Therefore, the Bangladesh Muslim League has called on all political parties supporting the uprising to reach a logical consensus on electoral processes and reforms as soon as possible and assist the interim government in holding elections—thus restoring the country to the path of democracy.
