2 killed as bus hits pickup at Jatrabari

Online Report : Two people, including a driver, were killed after a bus hit a pickup van in the capital`s Jatrabari area early Monday.

The accident happened at about 2am in front of Institute of Child and Mother Health, Matuail.

The deceased were identified as pickup driver Babul Chishti, 40, and Kabir Hossain, 50. Babul used to live in Jatrabari with his family. Both Babul and Kabir hailed from of Shariatpur district.

Locals rescued them in critical condition and took to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where Babul was declared dead on arrival and Kabir succumbed to his injuries this morning.

An eyewitness said that a passenger bus of `Tuhin Paribahan` hit a pickup van when the pickup was taking `U` turn on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. The pickup then got twisted and the bus fell into a roadside ditch.

Locals rescued the injured passengers and drivers. Of them Babul and Kabir were in critical condition.


The passengers received first aid at local hospitals.

DMCH police outpost in-charge inspector Bachchu Miah said the bodies were kept at the hospital morgue.
