Father, son killed as pickup rams autorickshaw in Chandpur

A father and his son were killed after a mini-truck rammed an autorickshaw at Hajiganj upazila in Chandpur district on Monday afternoon.

The accident took place around 1.30pm on the Chandpur-Cumilla regional highway at Gogra area under Bakila union of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Abu Taher Molla, 55, and his son Mamun Hossain Molla, 25, both residents of Poyaljosh village under the upazila.

According to the witnesses, a Chandpur-bound pickup van rammed into the CNG run autorickshaw from opposite direction when it was returning to Hajiganj carrying five passengers, including the duo, leaving the father and his son dead on the spot. Three other passengers also sustained injuries in the accident.


Locals rescued the injured and took them to Chandpur General Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

Confirming the matter, Hajiganj Police Station officer-in-charge Md Abdur Rashid said on information, they have seized the both vehicles from the spot, adding that no one has made arrested as the driver and helper of truck managed to escape from the spot.

Police have recovered the bodies from the spot and Hajiganj Upazila Health Complex. The bodies will be handed over to the family after taking legal actions, added the OC.
