Iran launched a fresh wave of ballistic missiles targeting Israel on Sunday, as reported by Iranian state media, while explosions continued to shake Iran’s capital, Tehran.
The attack prompted air raid sirens across parts of Israel, heightening fears of a broadening regional conflict.
The Israeli military’s Home Front Command announced that citizens could leave shelters after assessing the security situation, indicating that the immediate threat had subsided.
Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service reported on Telegram that no emergency calls were received regarding injuries or missile impacts from the latest attack.
However, an Israeli government statement claimed that Iran’s attacks since the onset of hostilities have killed at least 13 people, including children, and injured 380 others, with nine in serious condition.
The statement noted that 200 missiles and drones have struck 22 locations across Israel.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned of “severe and decisive” retaliation if Israel continues its attacks, urging regional nations to take a “clear, decisive, and effective stance” against Israeli aggression. Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Pezeshkian claimed Israel operates “without restrictions and with the greenlight of America,” accusing Washington of directly supporting Israel’s actions, according to Iran’s official IRNA news agency.
He described Iran’s military response as “strong and appropriate” to Israel’s recent strikes on Iranian nuclear and military targets.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baqaei, dismissed reports that Iran had sent messages to Israel through intermediaries.
Refuting claims by Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, who suggested Iran had asked Cyprus to convey messages to Israel, Baqaei told the semiofficial Mehr news agency, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has not sent any message to Israel through any country.”
The latest missile barrage follows Israel’s airstrikes on Friday, which targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities, ballistic missile factories, and senior military commanders, killing at least 78 people and injuring over 320, according to Iran’s UN ambassador.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) described its missile strikes as a “crushing and precise response” to Israel’s actions.
As both nations exchange heavy blows, the region teeters on the brink of all-out war. International calls for de-escalation, including from UN Secretary-General António Guterres, have urged both sides to cease hostilities, but the cycle of retaliation shows no immediate signs of abating.
