Police recovered seven crude bombs, commonly known as cocktails, from the Dhaka University (DU) area and near the High Court on Monday (June 16) morning, after miscreants reportedly threw the devices in two separate incidents.

According to DU authorities, six unexploded cocktails were found under a tree beside Kazi Motahar Hossain Bhaban (Law Building).

University security guards made the discovery and alerted the Proctorial Team, who then informed Shahbagh Police Station.

The Bomb Disposal Unit arrived at the scene and safely removed the explosives around 9:30 am, officials said.

In a related incident, two crude bombs were thrown from near the High Court shrine gate and from the opposite side of the road earlier in the morning.

One of the devices exploded, while the other remained unexploded on the roadside, they said, adding the Bomb Disposal Unit later secured both sites.

Dhaka University Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said the explosives were found inside food containers, wrapped in red tape. “Our security personnel became suspicious, opened the boxes, and immediately informed the police,” he said.

Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khalid Munsur confirmed the recovery. “The bombs were defused by the Bomb Disposal Unit, and an investigation is underway,” he added.
