The Election Commission has announced that parliamentary seats will be adjusted based on voter population, with Gazipur district gaining one seat and Bagerhat district losing one.
Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar shared these details during a press conference at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon on Wednesday.
Citing Articles 119-124 of the Constitution, the EC Anwar explained that the Election Commission is tasked with determining constituency boundaries for national election.
"We consult experts and form a specialised team to finalise boundaries, prioritising factors such as population data from the 2022 census," he said.
Each constituency is designed to represent approximately 420,500 voters.
He noted that districts with higher voter numbers, like Gazipur, will see an increase in seats, while those with fewer voters, like Bagerhat, will see a reduction.
He added that no objections were raised regarding boundary adjustments in 250 districts. The process also includes recommendations from a consensus commission to ensure fairness and transparency.
