2 held with hemp in Madaripur

Police have arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with a large amount of hemp from Sadar upazila in Madaripur district early Saturday.

The arrested are Nannu Dorji, 62 and Nuru Dorji, 42; both are residents of Uttar Jhikorhati village under Ghatmajhi union in the upazila.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive on Friday midnight and arrested the duo. They both were charged with several drug-related cases.


During the operation, two other accused, Enamul Dorji, 42 and Sumon Dorji, 35 fled after sensing the presence of police.

Police also recovered 200 kg of hemp worth Tk 40 lakh from their possessions.

Madaripur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jahangir Alam confirmed the incident through a press conference on Saturday afternoon and said that the process of filing a case at Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station is underway.
