India defeats New Zealand, sets up semi-final clash with Australia
  Date : 26-06-2025

India secured a 44-run victory over New Zealand on Sunday, sealing their spot in Champions Trophy semi-finals, where they will face Australia.

Spinner Varun Chakravarthy was the standout performer, claiming his maiden ODI five-wicket haul (5-42) in just his second match. New Zealand, despite a resilient 81 from Kane Williamson, were bowled out for 205 in 45.3 overs, failing to chase India’s 249-9.

India topped Group A after winning all three matches and will play the first semi-final in Dubai on Tuesday. The second semi-final will see New Zealand take on Group B winners South Africa in Lahore on Wednesday.

After being put to bat, India struggled at 30-3, with Virat Kohli (11) falling victim to a spectacular one-handed catch by Glenn Phillips. Shreyas Iyer (79) and Axar Patel (42) steadied the innings with a 98-run partnership before Hardik Pandya’s explosive 45 lifted India to a competitive total.

Williamson, dropped twice on 17 and 68, fought hard but lacked support as New Zealand lost wickets at regular intervals. Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with crucial dismissals, ensuring India’s spinners dominated the game.

India now shifts focus to their much-anticipated semi-final clash against Australia, aiming for a spot in the final.
