  Date : 26-06-2025

Members of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) after detaining former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda in a case filed over allegedly holding farcical national elections have sought a 10-day remand.

Sub-Inspector Shamsuzzoha Sarkar of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station has submitted the remand plea on Monday (June 23).

A hearing on the petition will take place at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka.

On Sunday (June 22) evening, locals first detained Ex-CEC Huda and handed him over to Uttara police.

According to a video circulated on social media shows Nurul Huda, wearing a lungi, surrounded by a group of angry people who forced a garland of shoes around his neck.

Earlier on Sunday morning, BNP filed a case against three former Election Commissions for allegedly staging fraudulent elections in the 10th, 11th, and 12th parliamentary polls.

The case was filed by Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of BNP’s National Executive Committee, with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. A total of 24 people, including former CECs Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, KM Nurul Huda, and Kazi Habibul Awal, have been named as accused in the case.
