JCD will win DUCSU polls if held fairly: Rizvi
  Date : 03-09-2025

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday expressed confidence that Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) will win the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students` Union (DUCSU) elections; provided the polls are conducted freely and fairly.

“Chhatra Dal is a student organisation rooted in struggle, ideals and activism. If the students of Dhaka University can vote without interference, JCD panel is certain to win,” Rizvi said at a rally at Dohar, organised by Dhaka district BNP to celebrate the party’s 47th founding anniversary.

He called on Dhaka University authorities to ensure a credible and transparent electoral process, expressing hope that necessary steps would be taken to uphold students` voting rights.

Addressing broader political developments, Rizvi criticised discussions around the introduction of a proportional representation (PR) voting system ahead of the upcoming national election scheduled for early February next year.

“A vested quarter is trying to disrupt the election process by suddenly pushing PR system. But what is this system and how many ordinary citizens truly understand it?” he questioned.

He argued that people of Bangladesh have no experience with PR system and are not interested in adopting it.

Speaking directly to the party activists gathered at the event, Rizvi asked, “Do you want elections under PR system?”, to which the crowd responded with a resounding “No, no!”

Rizvi reiterated that people of Bangladesh want to preserve the traditional direct voting system, which they are familiar with and trust.

He urged BNP leaders and activists to remain vigilant against any attempts to derail electoral process or undermine democracy.

The rally was presided over by Dhaka district BNP President Khondoker Abu Ashfaq, with General Secretary Nipun Roy conducting the programme.

Following the discussion, leaders and activists of BNP`s Dohar upazila unit brought out a celebratory rally to mark the party`s anniversary.
