Modi govt blocks Austrian economist Fehlinger’s account over ‘dismantle India’ post
  Date : 05-09-2025

MT Desk: The Narendara Modi-led Indian government has blocked the X account of Austrian economist Gunther Fehlinger-Jahn following his post wherein he called to “dismantle India”.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in his post, Fehlinger wrote, “I call to dismantle India into Ex-India. Narendra Modi is Russian man. We need friend of freedom for Khalistan”. Along with the remarks, Fehlinger also circulated a map showing Indian territories, including Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan as part of “Khalistan,” and occupied Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan. It also showed parts of India as belonging to Bangladesh and Nepal.
The Austrian economist’s account was disabled in India after the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology flagged the post and directed the Elon Musk-led social media platform to withhold its access in the country.
The screenshot of Fehlinger’s post went viral, sparking criticism from political leaders and netizens and demanding action.
Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi urged the Indian Ministry of External Affairs to raise the issue with Austria.
Social media users also recalled a 2023 tweet in which Fehlinger had expressed support for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, while criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “pro-Russia and pro-China.”
