Diplomatic Correspondent: Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, held a cordial meeting with Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury yesterday at the Bangladesh Secretariat to discuss enhancing cultural cooperation between the two countries. State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom was also present, according to an official handout.

During the meeting, both sides focused on strengthening bilateral collaboration in cultural exchange and heritage preservation. Minister Nitai Roy emphasized that culture serves as a powerful bridge among nations and highlighted the importance of exchanging artists, musicians, and craftsmen, as well as promoting folk art and handicrafts. He welcomed Pakistan’s proposal to provide specialised training in the preservation and restoration of antiquities, adding that regular exchange programmes for classical and folk music artists could enrich the cultural landscape of both countries.

High Commissioner Imran Haider highlighted Pakistan’s interest in organising joint exhibitions featuring artists and craftsmen from both nations. Both sides also agreed to streamline relations under the existing Cultural Cooperation Agreement of 1979 and the upcoming Cultural Exchange Programme 2025-2026.

State Minister Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom underscored the role of cultural exchanges in deepening bilateral ties. The discussions further included expanding scholarship and fellowship opportunities for students to promote education and research collaboration between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by Cultural Affairs Secretary Kaniz Moula, senior ministry officials, and members of the Pakistan High Commission delegation.
