Bangladesh and Pakistan Eye Stronger Cultural and Media Partnerships
  Date : 06-04-2026

Diplomatic Correspondent: Bangladesh and Pakistan have expressed a renewed commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through expanded cooperation in media, culture, and knowledge exchange, officials said following a high-level meeting in Dhaka on Monday.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan held talks with Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Dhaka, Imran Haider, at his office, where both sides discussed avenues to deepen engagement amid a rapidly evolving media landscape.

During the meeting, the Pakistani envoy congratulated Swapan on assuming office and underscored the importance of enhanced collaboration between the two countries.

Swapan highlighted the growing influence of digital and new media platforms, noting that these developments have created fresh opportunities for joint initiatives. He emphasized that both countries could identify new areas of cooperation based on shared interests in the media sector.

The discussions placed significant emphasis on promoting people-to-people contact, with cultural exchange identified as a key driver of stronger bilateral ties. Both sides explored proposals to increase visits by artists and performers and to pursue joint cultural productions.

Education and knowledge-sharing initiatives also featured prominently. The two countries discussed expanding student exchange programmes under a proposed “knowledge corridor,” with particular focus on science-based education and research collaboration.

In addition, both parties agreed to enhance existing cooperation between Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha and Associated Press of Pakistan, aiming to improve information exchange and professional collaboration between the national news agencies.

The High Commissioner extended an invitation to the minister to visit Pakistan, expressing optimism that such exchanges would further consolidate bilateral relations.

Officials said the meeting reflects a broader intent by both countries to build constructive partnerships in media, culture, and education, paving the way for closer ties in the coming years.
