5 children die with measles symptoms in Rajshahi

Five children have died in Rajshahi over the past 24 hours after exhibiting symptoms of measles, adding to the growing public health concern in the region.

Two of the deceased were treated at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital while three others died at a private hospital.

Dr. Shankor K. Biswas, a spokesperson for the medical college hospital, confirmed the two deaths between Saturday noon and Sunday noon.

He noted that the deceased infants were six and seven months old and hailed from Chapai Nawabganj.

In addition to the fatalities, the hospital admitted 14 new patients in the same timeframe. There are currently 125 patients receiving treatment for measles symptoms, with 36 having recovered and been discharged.

Since February, the hospital has recorded a total of 391 cases and 40 deaths related to the condition.

At the private hospital, General Manager Tariq Aziz reported that three children died, including two late Saturday night and one on Sunday morning.

The victims were hailed from Chapai Nawabganj and Natore districts.
