Wang Yi Reaffirms Support for UN Authority and Multilateralism
  Date : 19-06-2026

International: China stands ready to work with all countries to revitalize and strengthen the United Nations, a senior Chinese official said on Wednesday morning at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office.

The event marked the release of the white paper titled “Building a Fairer and More Rational Global Governance System: China’s Concepts, Proposals and Actions.”

Responding to journalists’ questions on whether a return to “the law of the jungle” is emerging and whether the authority and role of the United Nations are being weakened, the official noted that more than 80 years ago, faced with the devastating consequences of such an order, the international community emerged from the ruins of two world wars to embrace multilateralism and establish the United Nations.

Today, he said, the perception that multilateralism has failed does not stem from any irrelevance of the UN, but rather from a lack of respect for its authority and role. Similarly, the resurgence of “the law of the jungle” is not due to the UN Charter becoming outdated, but because its principles are not being effectively implemented and upheld.

Amid growing global challenges, the urgent priority is to faithfully implement the purposes and principles of the UN Charter—upholding sovereign equality, respecting international rule of law, opposing the abuse of power and coercion, and actively supporting the central role of the United Nations.

As a founding signatory of the UN Charter, China emphasized that it bears an unshirkable responsibility in this regard. China stated that it is ready to uphold the authority of the United Nations through its Global Governance Initiative and to work with all countries to revitalize and strengthen the UN system.
