International: On Thursday, August 20, He Yadong, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce, strongly responded to a recent US report and narrative at the ministry’s regular press conference in Beijing.
At the press conference, He said the report titled “The Great Transshipment Scam,” released by the United States, completely ignores the underlying facts and distorts the truth. He said the report falsely accuses normal international trade and investment activities of being “fraud” and has fabricated a narrative involving a so-called “shadow transit network.”
He noted that this represents an extreme example of unilateralism and trade protectionism, with the fundamental purpose of suppressing and marginalising Chinese products in the global market. On behalf of the Chinese government, he expressed strong dissatisfaction with and firm opposition to such actions.
He further said that the real threat to global supply chains comes from the high and discriminatory tariffs imposed by the United States, which pose a genuine threat to the security of global supply chains. Washington cannot resolve the fundamental and deep-rooted problems of its own economy by shifting the blame for its domestic economic difficulties onto other countries.
China calls on the United States to immediately stop making such irresponsible accusations and refrain from undermining China-US economic and trade relations, so as to safeguard the security and stability of global production and supply chains.
The Ministry of Commerce spokesperson made it clear that China has always abided by international economic and trade rules. On the basis of equality and mutual benefit, China will continue to pursue trade cooperation with other countries around the world, jointly build a mutually beneficial and balanced trade network, and make positive contributions to global development and prosperity.
