International: On Thursday, August 21, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun highly praised Timor-Leste for maintaining strategic autonomy and taking a firm stance in support of justice and equality.

He made the remarks during a recent meeting with Timor-Leste President José Ramos-Horta in Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste.

During the meeting, the Chinese defense minister said China firmly supports the development of Timor-Leste’s national defense and military sectors. He said Beijing is ready to work with Timor-Leste to elevate bilateral military relations to a new level.

President José Ramos-Horta expressed gratitude to China for standing by Timor-Leste and providing various forms of assistance over the years since its independence. He expressed hope that the armed forces of the two countries would further expand practical cooperation in the future.

Ramos-Horta made it clear that Timor-Leste firmly adheres to the “One-China principle.” He also said his country is ready to work with China and other countries in the region to promote peace, friendship and cooperation in the South China Sea.
