Japan Tech Internship career event connects DU students with Japanese industry
  Date : 06-10-2026

DU Correspondent: In a major boost to Bangladesh-Japan tech collaboration, the Global South-Japan Tech Talent Internship (GS-JTI) On-Campus Career Event was held on 5 October 2026 at the NababNawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU).

The day-long program brought together Bangladeshi students and eight leading Japanese companies to explore technology internships, professional development and future collaboration opportunities.

The initiative is promoted by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), with the GS-JTI Secretariat supported by Deloitte Tohmatsu Venture Support and Koei Research & Consulting. The program aims to connect emerging technical talent from the Global South with Japanese businesses seeking fresh skills and perspectives in engineering and technology.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka University, Prof. Dr. UpamaKabir delivered the welcome remarks, highlighting the importance of industry-academia linkage for Bangladesh’s tech graduates.

Mr. Tatsuya Yamada of the GS-JTI Secretariat introduced the program and explained the appeal of working in Japan, including its innovation culture and global technology ecosystem.

Vote of thanks was given by Prof. Dr. Md. Mamun-Or-Rashid of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, DU.

Eight Japanese companies participated in the event: Adora Inc.; A-one road Co., Ltd.; Aster Co., Ltd.; AWL, Inc.; CAPER, Inc.; Green Carbon Inc.; Japan Superconductivity Application Development, Inc. (JSA); and Noahlogy Co., Ltd.

The companies represent cutting-edge sectors including AI applications and online child safety, advanced manufacturing, disaster resilience, edge AI and computer vision, large language model platforms, carbon projects and sustainability, superconducting technologies, and AI for shipbuilding.

For Bangladeshi students, the event offered direct access to company representatives, detailed information on internship roles and application requirements, and a first-hand understanding of Japanese workplaces. Organizers said such internships help students apply classroom knowledge to real industry projects, develop professional communication skills, and gain experience working in international teams.

Several participating companies also indicated possible longer-term career pathways for outstanding interns, subject to their own selection processes and business needs.

From the industry side, the Japanese companies expressed keen interest in meeting prospective interns with strong programming, analytical and engineering skills, discussing their technical needs, and learning about students’ own projects and ideas. They noted that collaboration with Bangladeshi talent can support product development and provide valuable insight into new markets. Opportunities identified include software development, AI engineering, manufacturing data analysis and sustainability-related work.

Speakers at the program emphasized that regular events of this kind are vital for strengthening the connection between teaching and industry practice. Direct engagement with employers helps students understand current skill requirements, guides career preparation, and creates new opportunities for applied research and industry-academia collaboration.

They observed that continued engagement between Bangladeshi universities and Japanese industry can support internships and student exchanges while giving faculty useful insight into evolving technological needs, further deepening the friendly ties between Bangladesh and Japan.
