Senior lawmakers from China and Russia have agreed to further solidify strategic communication, political mutual trust, and practical cooperation across various fields. The consensus was reached during talks held on Monday (November 2) in Beijing between Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People`s Congress (NPC), and Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
During the meeting, Zhao stated that Beijing stands ready to work with Moscow—taking the important consensus reached by the two heads of state as guidance—to further deepen bilateral ties. He emphasized the necessity of expanding cooperation in priority areas, including trade and investment, energy and natural resources, and connectivity infrastructure.
The top Chinese legislator also called for broadening collaboration into emerging sectors, such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and the digital economy, while strengthening coordination across industrial and supply chains.
Zhao added that both sides should work in concert to ensure the success of the China-Russia Years of Education exchange program and enhance subnational and regional partnerships. He also stressed the importance of intensifying strategic coordination within multilateral mechanisms, including the United Nations.
In response, Matviyenko extended congratulations on the successful convocation of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. She reaffirmed Russia`s keen interest in expanding legislative communication and parliamentary cooperation with China`s National People`s Congress.
Following their meeting, the two leaders visited an exhibition showcasing the artworks of Russian painter Nikolai Fechin at the National Art Museum of China.
