Gold prices soar to Tk 171,286 per bhori

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) on Monday raised the gold prices by Tk 2,310 per bhori, pushing the cost of 22-carat gold to Tk 171,286.

The new rate is set to take effect from Tuesday.

The decision was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by Masudur Rahman, the chairman of the BAJUS Price Determination and Monitoring Committee. This adjustment follows a short-lived price cut just two days earlier, when rates were reduced by Tk 3,570.

According to BAJUS, the revision was driven by a rise in the local market value of hallmarked pure gold, and the association took into account prevailing market conditions before finalizing the new rates.

As per the latest pricing, 21-carat gold will cost Tk 163,494 per bhori, 18-carat gold Tk 140,143, and traditionally processed gold Tk 115,905.

Buyers are also required to pay an additional 5% VAT, alongside a minimum 6% making charge, which may vary with craftsmanship and design complexity.

With this latest update, 2025 has now seen 28 gold price adjustments—20 increases and only 8 reductions—while last year’s tally stood at 62 changes, including 35 hikes.

Despite the ongoing fluctuations in gold, silver prices have remained unchanged in the domestic market, with 22-carat silver still priced at Tk 2,811 per bhori, and other varieties maintaining their previous rates.
