  Dr. Zubaidur Rahman appointed as new Chairman of Islami Bank

Professor Dr. M Zubaidur Rahman has been appointed as the new Chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh, the country’s largest Shariah-based bank.

According to a press release issued by the bank, Dr. Rahman was appointed as an independent director of Islami Bank by Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur. He was elected Chairman at a board meeting held on Wednesday.

Dr. Rahman began his career in 1975 as a lecturer in the Department of Finance at University of Dhaka. He later earned a PhD in Finance from University of Manchester in the UK.

His academic career includes positions as a professor at State University of New York, visiting professor at Bocconi University in Italy and visiting scholar at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Moscow State University in Russia.

He is also the founding Vice Chancellor of ZNRF University of Management Sciences (ZUMS) in Dhaka.

Dr. Rahman has extensive experience as a senior official at World Bank, where he worked as an independent advisor to companies, governments and international organizations in developing and emerging economies. His focus areas include strategic consulting, change management, financial accountability, and corporate governance.

During his tenure at World Bank, he played a leading role in designing and implementing the "Standards and Codes Initiative" to strengthen the global financial system. Under this program, he engaged in high-level policy dialogues with senior government officials, built partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and helped countries enhance institutional capacity to promote transparency, accountability and governance.

Dr. Rahman brings decades of international experience and financial expertise to his new role at Islami Bank, positioning the institution for continued growth and governance reforms.
