We Must Resist Attempts to Dissect History and Erase 1947: BML

Press Release: The annulment of the 1905 Partition of Bengal, the formation of the Muslim League in 1906 under the leadership of Nawab Salimullah, the fierce opposition by Brahminical forces under Congress resulting in the reversal of the Bengal Partition in 1911, the long struggle for the establishment of Dhaka University, the Lahore Resolution and the Two-Nation Theory presented by Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Huq in 1940, the 1946 elections, and finally the independence achieved in 1947 through the Azadi Movement by dividing India—these are essential milestones in our history.
However, the July Declaration mentions British colonial rule with a single word, attempting to deliberately undermine, ignore, and sidestep this unprecedented achievement. Similarly ignored and unspoken are the heinous Pilkhana massacre orchestrated under Indian influence by fascist Hasina and her accomplices, the Shapla Chattar tragedy, and the judicial executions carried out under the pretext of fabricated crimes against humanity. These events are directly linked to the mass uprising of July 2024 and played a critical role in creating the historical context and public engagement necessary for the uprising.
The public, especially Muslim nationalists and the Islamic-minded civil society, had hoped for neutrality from the interim government. But the silence on these historic matters in the July Declaration has left them bitterly disappointed. The continuous attempt to dissect and erase the unprecedented victories achieved through the long-standing struggle of Muslim nationalists from history is being driven by Indian imperialists and their local collaborators.
The nation—especially the younger generation—must stand firmly against such efforts to sever ties with our historical roots. As the July Declaration remains incomplete, the leaders of the Muslim League have strongly demanded its immediate amendment.
This statement was made on Friday (08 August 2025) at a discussion meeting held at the party’s central office in Banglamotor, Dhaka, on the occasion of the 47th Reorganization Day of the Bangladesh Muslim League. The meeting was presided over by party Standing Committee member Syed Abdul Hannan Noor.
Speakers included: Party Secretary-General Kazi Abul Khayer, Standing Committee members Engineer Gias Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury and Sheikh A. Sabur, Additional Secretary-Generals Kazi A.A. Kafi and Maksudur Rahman, Organizing Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan (Chattogram), Publicity Secretary Mamunur Rashid, Labor Secretary Captain Anisur Rahman among others.
The speakers expressed gratitude toward Nawab Salimullah, the founder of the Muslim League, and Khan A. Sabur, the reorganizer of the Bangladesh Muslim League. They noted that Nawab Salimullah, in the face of 200 years of British rule and Brahminical oppression that turned a royal nation into beggars, sacrificed everything—including bankrupting his own estate—to unite the Muslims of the subcontinent and enlighten them through education. Yet, this undisputed great figure`s name and contribution remain unspoken in the July Declaration.
Similarly, Khan A. Sabur not only united followers of Muslim national identity through his initiative to reorganize the Muslim League on 8 August 1976, but also played a crucial role in ending the one-party BAKSAL rule of the time and restoring multi-party democracy.
The leaders expressed their thanks to the interim government for initiating the election process.
The meeting concluded with prayers for the departed souls of Nawab Salimullah, Khan A. Sabur, and the martyrs of the July Movement.
