Condolence meeting of Rangpur BNP leader Anisur Rahman Laku held

(BSS) - Condolence meeting and Dua mehfil for the departed soul of Rangpur District BNP member-secretary Anisur Rahman Laku , a clean image popular figure in Rangpur`s political circles, was held this evening.

The Rangpur district BNP organised the programs at the District Shilpokola Academy auditorium in the city with its convener Md Saiful Islam in the chair.

BNP standing committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain attended the events as the chief guest.

BNP joint secretary general and former Rangpur district BNP general Ssecretary Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel attended the occasion as keynote discussant on the life and works of Anisur Rahman, a widely popular and committed political leader to the BNP.

BNP central executive committee organising secretary (Rangpur division) principal Asadul Habib Dulu, assistant organising secretaries (Rangpur division) Md Abdul Khaleque and Professor Aminul Islam, spoke as special guests.

Rangpur metropolitan BNP convener Samsuzzaman Samu and its member-secretary Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Don, Anisur Rahman Laku`s son-in-law Redwan Himel, BNP leaders from all eight upazilas, addressed, among others.

Recalling Anisur Rahman Laku`s clean image, personal integrity, patriotism, and organizational skills as a political leader, the speakers paid him deep respect and urged all BNP leaders and workers to follow his ideals in politics and serve the people.

Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel in his speech said that the virtues of Anisur Rahman Laku, a tested BNP leader, cannot be discussed in brief.

"Completely honest, patriotic and dedicated BNP leader like Anisur Rahman Laku is needed to build a new Bangladesh as envisioned by acting BNP chairman Tarique Rahman," he said, and called on party leaders to follow the ideals of Laku.

Paying rich tribute to Anisur Rahman Laku, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said the politics of the BNP must be carried forward by embracing the ideals of Laku.

"Laku was an ever-smiling man, a very popular leader while leading Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal and BNP in various positions. Those of us who are alive should pray for the forgiveness of Laku`s departed soul and stand by his bereaved family," he said.

Prayers were offered after the condolence meeting.

Earlier, Anisur Rahman Laku passed away early Wednesday morning following a massive cardiac arrest. He was 53.

Laku suffered the fatal heart attack at Sherpur point in Bogura on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway while returning from Dhaka in a private vehicle.

He was accompanied by Md Saiful Islam, convener of Rangpur district BNP, who immediately rushed him to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
