Jamaat-e-Islami has alleged widespread irregularities in at least 30 constituencies during 13th National Parliamentary elections and has called for a recount of votes and suspension of results in these areas.

The party has also warned it will pursue all legal options if necessary.

Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami, Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer, made the announcement at a press conference held at the party’s central office in Dhaka`s Mogbazar on Saturday afternoon.

Senior party leaders and members of the legal panel were present.

Zubayer stated that while the nation had expected a free and fair election, numerous complaints were received about irregularities at many polling stations, including barring agents from centers, errors in vote counting, unusual delays in announcing results and biased behaviour.

The party has flagged constituencies where results were decided by margins of 5,000 to 10,000 votes and submitted written complaints to local Returning Officers and Election Commission.

However, he alleged that official gazette notifications were issued before the complaints were resolved.

At the press conference, Dr. Abdul Mannan, candidate for Dhaka-6, showed copies of results from several centers to support allegations of tampering.

He claimed that in some areas, handwritten results replaced printed ones, signatures of polling agents were missing, unknown individuals were listed as agents and in one center, results were recorded in pencil. Despite filing requests for suspension of results on election night, no action was reportedly taken.

Zubayer also reported post-election violence in multiple areas, including assaults, property damage, arson and even deaths in some cases.

He called for action against those responsible, emphasizing that the country had hoped for a non-violent political culture in a “New Bangladesh,” which he said had not materialized.

The Jamaat leader expressed confidence that a recount would reveal the true winners and that many candidates currently shown as defeated may actually have won.

He urged Election Commission to suspend results in the disputed constituencies and conduct a recount.
