Jamaat-e-Islami demands trial for BDR massacre

MM Rahmatullah: A discussion meeting was held on Wednesday (25 February) at the Dhaka City South office of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, demanding trial of those involved in the tragic BDR massacre at Pilkhana on 25 and 26 February 2009. The meeting was presided over by Abdus Sabur Fekir, member of Jamaat’s central working committee and Naib-e-Amir of Dhaka City South.
The chief guest, Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP, said, “To maintain the country’s independence, sovereignty, integrity and security, those involved in the Pilkhana massacre must be brought to justice.” He added that the Pilkhana massacre was a conspiracy to undermine Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty, and called for exposing those involved and trying the conspirators who attacked the nation’s sovereignty.
Special guest Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat and MP from Sirajganj-4, said it would be wrong to call the Pilkhana killings merely a massacre. He described it as a pre-planned conspiracy to weaken the army by killing patriotic military officers.
Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud, MP and Secretary of Dhaka City South Jamaat; Advocate Dr. Helal Uddin, Naib Amir of Dhaka City South; Delowar Hossain, Assistant Secretary and central working committee member; and Dr. Abdul Mannan, central working committee member and candidate for Dhaka-6 from the 11-party alliance were also speaking at the event.
At the end of the meeting, a special prayer was offered for the martyred army officers of the Pilkhana massacre and for all martyrs and injured from the Liberation War to the July uprising. The prayer was led by Maulana Abdul Halim, Assistant Secretary General and member of Jamaat’s central executive committee.
