Chinese Foreign Minister Calls for Stronger Multilateralism

International: China will continue to play its role as a staunch advocate and responsible partner in global development, with its own progress closely linked to the shared development of all nations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Tuesday.

Addressing a high-level meeting in Beijing marking the fifth anniversary of the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Wang said the initiative has emerged as China`s practical solution and significant contribution to revitalizing global development.

Over the past five years, he noted, institutional frameworks for GDI cooperation have been steadily strengthened, while a series of practical projects have been successfully implemented across various sectors, delivering tangible benefits to participating countries.

Wang said the importance of the GDI has become even more evident amid today`s increasingly complex and uncertain international landscape. He called on all parties to strengthen coordination between the GDI and the United Nations development agenda, work together to uphold the cause of global development, and accelerate progress toward shared prosperity.

The Chinese foreign minister highlighted four key priorities: fostering a peaceful environment for development through greater unity and cooperation; accelerating the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through coordinated efforts; advancing innovation-driven development by promoting openness, mutual learning, and cooperation; and strengthening the global governance system by upholding multilateralism.

Representatives from participating countries praised the achievements of the Global Development Initiative over the past five years and acknowledged its growing contribution to international development cooperation.
