140th Canton Fair Kicks Off with Record Displays of New and Green Products

The 140th China Import and Export Fair, widely known as the Canton Fair, opened on Thursday (October 15) in Guangzhou, China, as the grand trade gathering marks its 70th anniversary this year.

Spanning an exhibition area of approximately 1.55 million square meters, the mega fair will be held in three phases and run through November 4.

This edition of the Canton Fair places special emphasis on three major developmental trends: "new, green, and intelligent." Drawing business representatives and traders from diverse countries and regions around the globe, the event provides an expansive stage to explore commercial negotiations and foster bilateral partnerships.

Keeping pace with emerging dynamics in foreign trade, as many as 32,000 enterprises are participating in this session. Among them, more than 11,000 companies specialize in advanced, high-tech, and innovative manufacturing, including industry leaders across respective product categories.

Notably, 64 percent of the participating enterprises are deploying cutting-edge technologies such as the industrial internet and artificial intelligence.

The proportions of debut new products and green, eco-friendly items have reached 23.2 percent and 26 percent respectively—setting all-time record highs on both fronts.

More than 700 new product release events are scheduled during the fair, reflecting an estimated 15 percent increase in product launch activities compared to the previous edition.

The first phase of the 140th Canton Fair, running from October 15 to 19 under the theme "Advanced Manufacturing," covers an exhibition space of 520,000 square meters. This phase hosts over 25,000 exhibition booths and features more than 12,000 participating enterprises.
