BNP supporters gather at airport to welcome Khaleda
  Date : 10-05-2025

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is set to return to the country on Tuesday after undergoing long-term treatment in London, sparking excitement and enthusiasm among party leaders and activists.

The BNP had earlier announced various preparations to welcome their leader. The return of Zubaida Rahman — wife of the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman and daughter-in-law of Khaleda Zia — after 17 years has added special significance to the occasion. Her arrival has infused renewed energy among party members.

Khaleda Zia is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:00 am via a Qatar Royal Ambulance flight. From early morning, BNP leaders and activists began arriving from across the country to greet her. Many were seen carrying placards with welcome messages, party flags, and banners. By 8:00 am, the road in front of the airport was already crowded with supporters.

Zahirul Islam Sumon, a Jubo Dal activist from Dhaka North, came from Uttara with his wife and young child. Speaking to News, he said, “The arrival of our beloved leader brings us immense joy. We came early just to catch a glimpse of her. We want to show that the uncompromising leader of the nation has the full support of the people.”

Shahriar Kabir, who came from Kapasia, said, “I started my journey right after Fajr prayer. We haven’t seen our leader for nearly three months. She was unwell, and we prayed for her recovery every day. By the grace of the Almighty, she is returning in good health. There’s nothing more joyous than this. Today, I want to greet our unwavering leader with flowers.”

Mahmud, another Jubo Dal activist from Uttara who came with a group of friends, told News, “Today is a day of celebration for us. The ‘Mother of Democracy’ is returning home. Dhaka is filled with leaders and activists. We have come not only to ensure the security of our former Prime Minister but also to greet her with love and respect.”
