Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Country`s both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-- today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities. reports BSS.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, lost 29.4 points or 0.6 percent to settle at 4,791 points, as against 4,820 points in the previous trading session.

Trading activities also remained sluggish with market turnover inched up by 11.3 percent to Taka 2.9 billion as against Taka 2.6 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Bank (19.9 percent) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by General Insurance (9.8 percent) and Food (9.1 percent) sectors.

Most of the sectors ended in red, out of which Mutual Fund (-3.4 percent), Cement (-1.8 percent) and Services (-1.8 percent) exhibited the most negative returns on the bourse on Sunday.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 102 advanced, 234 declined and 61 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE also settled on a negative note. The Selective Categories` Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) declined by 50.0 and 78.0 points respectively.
