A mild to moderate heatwave is currently sweeping across 26 districts in Bangladesh, with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) warning that the high temperatures may continue in the coming days.
According to a forecast issued Friday by Dr. Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik of the BMD, parts of three divisions—Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Sylhet—along with six specific districts including Tangail, Faridpur, Brahmanbaria, Khulna, Jashore, and Chuadanga are experiencing ongoing heatwaves.
Despite the scorching temperatures, the weather office has predicted possible relief in the form of rainfall. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds may occur in parts of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, as well as isolated areas in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal by Saturday morning.
Some areas may also experience moderately heavy rainfall, the BMD added. While daytime temperatures may slightly drop, nighttime temperatures are expected to remain mostly unchanged.
The BMD urged residents, especially in the affected districts, to take necessary precautions as the extreme heat poses risks to health, particularly for children, the elderly, and people with pre-existing conditions.
