  Date : 13-07-2025

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has vowed to ensure swift justice for the brutal murder of a scrap metal trader in the capital’s Mitford area on July 9, promising exemplary punishment for the perpetrators through a speedy trial.

In a post on his verified Facebook page on Saturday, Asif Nazrul said, “The government is committed to a speedy trial for the brutal murder at Mitford. This heinous crime will be prosecuted promptly, and exemplary punishment will be delivered.”

He confirmed that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, and police have launched a thorough investigation with high priority.

“The case will be transferred to the Speedy Trial Tribunal, and arrangements are being made for an expedited trial under Section 10 of the Speedy Trial Tribunal Act, 2002,” he added.

The victim, 39-year-old scrap metal trader Lal Chand, also known as Sohag, was brutally hacked, beaten, and stoned to death near a gate of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital on July 9.
