  Date : 13-07-2025

Golam Mostofa, Special Correspondent: Homeless Hamida Khatun in Tarash, Sirajganj got a new tin house with government grants and people’s help. She was officially handed over to her house after prayers were held yesterday, Saturday afternoon. Hamida Khatun’s home is in Do-Garia village of Desigram union in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj district. Her husband’s name is the late Habibur Rahman.

Hamida Khatun (61) said that she is very happy to get a house. She used to live in a ghostly environment in a graveyard. Later, the locals kindly let her live in an abandoned room in a house. There was no roof on the broken house. They covered it with polythene. The floor and walls of the house used to get damp due to rainwater. Many years have passed since she had no home.

Meanwhile, reporter Golam Mostafa said that news was published about homeless Hamida Khatun. Then, with some government grants and financial assistance from people, a 12-acre tin house was built. She needs a latrine, tube well and electricity for a normal life.

It is known that Hamida Khatun’s husband Habibur Rahman died many days ago, leaving behind two daughters. Due to poverty, he had kept the elder daughter Habija Khatun working in a house. They got her married. He adopted the younger daughter Shadia. Hamidar still spends her days without eating.

On the other hand, Tafiz Uddin (82), a local resident of Do-Garia village, said, “I let Hamida live in my abandoned house. She is suffering a lot. She has no one to look after in this world. It has benefited her a lot to get a house.”

A young man from Do-Garia village named Sadiqul Islam said that the youth community has provided a lot of support in building a house for the helpless Hamidar. Especially in demolishing the abandoned house and spreading soil on the floor of the new house and leveling it.

In this regard, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nusrat Jahan told Daily Muslim Times, “We have provided some support.” Others have also extended their helping hands. If we get such help, the sorrow of the helpless Hamidads of the society will be alleviated.
