Symbolic Janaza Held in Lakshmipur to Protest Deplorable Road Conditions
  Date : 16-07-2025

Nur Uddin Jabed, Lakshmipur: Most roads in Lakshmipur district have become nearly impassable due to their poor condition. Filled with potholes and left unrepaired for years, these roads have turned into daily suffering routes for the public. In protest against the prolonged negligence and indifference of the concerned authorities, affected residents staged a symbolic Ghaibana Janaza (funeral prayer in absentia).

The demonstration took place on Monday (July 14) around 11 AM in front of the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) office at the Dakshin Station area. Victims from various localities who regularly travel on these damaged roads participated in the protest.

Following the symbolic prayer, speakers expressed outrage over the deteriorating road conditions. They alleged that the Roads and Highways officials are in a “deep sleep,” as no visible initiatives have been taken to resolve the crisis. Today’s symbolic Janaza is to wake them up, one speaker remarked.

They issued a seven-day ultimatum, demanding immediate visible action on road repairs. If no steps are taken within this period, we will be compelled to announce tougher programs, they warned.

The protesters also called for prompt road renovations and disciplinary action against the negligent officials.

When approached for comments, Executive Engineer of Lakshmipur Roads Division, Zaherul Islam, was not available at his office. Multiple attempts to reach him by phone were also unsuccessful.
