Online Report : A series of clashes broke out in front of Jatiya Party (JaPa) central office in Kakrail on Friday evening, as rival groups engaged in brickbat throwing and chase-and-counter-chase.
JaPa activists alleged that members of Gono Odhikar Parishad (Public Rights Council) attacked them during a procession.
However, Gono Odhikar Parishad leaders claimed it was JaPa supporters who first hurled bricks to provoke the violence.
The incident occurred around 6:15 PM, leaving several people injured, though the exact number could not be confirmed immediately.
Large contingents of the army, police, and other law enforcement agencies rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
Ramna Police Station inspector (operations) Atikul Alam Khandakar said, “Around 6:15 PM, both groups engaged in brickbat throwing. We are currently at the scene. Further details will be shared later.”
The Jatiya Party, founded by former military ruler Hussain Muhammad Ershad, has long faced criticism for its political role during controversial elections under the Awami League government. Despite being the opposition in parliament, JP also held cabinet positions, drawing accusations of legitimizing authoritarian rule.
Several opposition parties, including Gono Odhikar Parishad, have demanded a ban on the activities of both the Awami League and Jatiya Party, accusing them of collaborating to perpetuate fascist governance.
