No risk of unrest on Victory Day, no parade this year: Home adviser
  Date : 19-11-2025

Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs, has said there is no risk of unrest on December 16, the country’s Victory Day. He also confirmed that, as in the previous year, there will be no parade.

He made the remarks on Wednesday (November 19) at the Secretariat while speaking to reporters after a security meeting on arrangements for Victory Day 2025.

Following the death sentence handed down to Sheikh Hasina, some political unrest had arisen. When asked whether there was any risk of sabotage or other issues during Victory Day, the Home Affairs Adviser said that no unrest had occurred after the verdict and added that there is no likelihood of any unrest on Victory Day either.

Referring to the celebrations, he said, “As in the past, it will be the same this time. In fact, it may be even better than before. However, there was no parade last year, and there will be no parade this year either.”

Expressing hope, he said he wished for a peaceful celebration of the national Victory Day by all.

Regarding the arrest of a journalist last night without a warrant—who was taken from his home by the Detective Branch (DB) and released in the morning—he said, “This is the first I am hearing of this. After investigating, I may be able to provide more information.”

When asked whether this incident could be considered police misconduct, he replied, “I will look into it first.”
