Hat-trick win for Rangpur Riders after crushing Barisal

After becoming champions in the Global Super League, Rangpur Riders are set to play in the BPL. Mahedi-Sohan`s performance has continued in Mirpur as well. The Bashundhara Group team got off to a flying start by defeating Dhaka Capitals. Then, Rangpur won the tournament by defeating Sylhet and Barisal.

Sohan`s team defeated the reigning champions by 8 wickets in their third match. On the other hand, Tamim-Mushfiqur tasted defeat after one match. Barisal started the tournament by defeating Rajshahi.

On Thursday (January 2), in the second match of the day, Barisal batted first and gave Rangpur an easy target of 125 runs. Rangpur reached the victory port with 30 balls and 8 wickets in hand in reply.

Chasing an easy target, Rangpur did not get off to a good start. Debutant Azizul Haque Tamim was called out in the second over of the innings. Two balls later, Toufiq Khan followed his lead. Rangpur lost 2 wickets for 15 runs.

Saif Hasan, along with another opener Alex, took the helm of the Rangpur camp. The North Bengal franchise, relying on the batting of the two, scored 48 runs in the power play and fulfilled the quota of 100 runs in 12 overs. Saif also scored a fifty in 39 balls.

In the end, Rangpur reached the port of victory with 30 balls and 8 wickets in hand, relying on Alex Hales` 49 runs off 41 balls and Saif Hasan`s unbeaten 61 runs off 45 balls.

Iqbal Hossain Emon took two wickets for Barisal.

Earlier, Barisal did not get off to a good start after losing the toss and opting to bat. Opener Nazmul Hasan Shanto returned to the dressing room after scoring 9 runs off 10 balls. Tauhid Hridoy could not take advantage of the situation either. He scored 4 runs off 6 balls.

However, Tamim Iqbal kept one end in front and tried to score runs. But he could not extend his innings. He was bowled out by Nahid for 28 runs off 18 balls. Experienced Mushfiqur Rahim and Kyle Myers could not shine with the bat today.

Mushfiqur fell into the trap of leg before four after scoring 15 runs off 17 balls, and Myers was caught out after scoring 14 runs off 13 balls. Then, when Fahim Ashraf was out for 1 run off 3 balls, Barisal fell into a batting disaster, losing 6 wickets for 80 runs.

Experienced Mahmudullah Riyad could not save Barisal from danger today. He was played down by Khushdil Shah for 10 runs off 8 balls. Barisal exceeded the quota of 100 runs in the 16th over.

Mohammad Nabi tried to score runs when Shaheen Shah Afridi (8) and Tanvir Islam were out for 6 runs. When this Afghan star was out for the second ball in the 19th over, Barisal was all out for 124 runs with 10 balls in hand. Nabi scored 21 runs off 19 balls.
