Online Desk: Pakistan on Wednesday voiced concern over the killing of tourists in an attack in Indian-Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, offering condolences to the victims’ families and wishing a swift recovery for the injured. The statement came from the Foreign Office in response to questions about the incident, which took place in the Anantnag district of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
“We are concerned at the loss of tourists’ lives in an attack in Anantnag,” the Foreign Office spokesperson said. “We extend our condolences to the near ones of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery.” At least 26 tourists were killed and dozens injured on Tuesday after gunmen opened fire in a popular resort town in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The attack took place on Tuesday in Pahalgam, around 90km from Srinagar, the region’s main city. According to Indian police, the assailants ambushed a group of tourists, firing at close range. The attack also left more than three dozen people wounded, many of whom remain in critical condition. Following the attack, the Indian media has started to fabricate and spread false and baseless propaganda.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, visiting Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, cut short his trip following the deadly shooting attack, foreign ministry officials said. He decried the “heinous act” in the summer retreat of Pahalgam, pledging the attackers “will be brought to justice”.
