Police hunt youth who threw bottle at Mahfuj Alam

Police are searching for the youth accused of throwing a water bottle at Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuj Alam in Kakrail, Dhaka.

Ramna Zone Assistant Police Commissioner (AC) Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the matter on Thursday morning (May 15).

He said that efforts are underway to identify and locate the youth. The suspect is being identified through video footage, and legal action will be taken against him.

Adviser Mahfuj Alam had gone to speak with protesting students of Jagannath University in front of the Kakrail mosque on Wednesday night (May 14). During the conversation, a plastic water bottle was thrown at him.

The video of the incident has already gone viral on social media.

In the footage, a youth wearing a cap can be seen throwing the bottle from within the crowd while Mahfuj Alam was speaking with the students. Police officers were seen nearby, and one of them is seen questioning the youth in the video.

Top leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) have expressed strong outrage over the incident. They stated that while criticism is a democratic right, physical assault is an act of barbarism.
