Chief Adviser won’t step down: Faiz Ahmad

News Desk : Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, special assistant to the Chief Adviser, has stated that Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus will not resign.

“Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus doesn`t need power for himself, but for Bangladesh—for the country`s peaceful democratic transition—Dr Yunus sir is essential. Rather, the cabinet needs to become more dynamic. The government must become more functional; the advisers need to take on greater responsibilities and present visible progress to the public. There can be no disagreement on this matter,” Faiz Ahmad wrote on his Facebook account on Friday.

“He also stated, “We must demonstrate that, following the mass uprising and with the consent of the people, the Professor has successfully delivered results while in power.”

He said, “Dr Muhammad Yunus is respected by the global community, and it is our responsibility to uphold that honour. I believe the government must now engage in more intensive and regular discussions with political parties, actively seeking their opinions on various matters. Any form of isolation is undesirable.”

“At the same time, the military must refrain from interfering in politics. In today’s world, the armed forces of civilised nations do not engage in political affairs. Therefore, the Army Chief’s recent statement about holding elections by December failed to maintain jurisdictional correctness. However, the military must be treated with due respect and kept within a framework of trust. Any sudden or rash actions regarding the military must be avoided. Similarly, under the guise of inclusiveness, the rehabilitation of the Awami League should not be allowed. The Bangladesh Army is our pride and a place of trust—no one will break that,” he added.

He further said, “With necessary preparations completed, I hope the election will be held sometime between April and May. However, this is my personal opinion. All necessary reforms must be carried out during this time, including the implementation of the July Charter. Yet, according to the roadmap set from December to June, the authority to declare the exact election date lies solely with Sir. No one else has the right to hijack that authority. When Sir was brought in, he made it clear at the airport: `You must listen to me.`”

“In July–August 2025, we will celebrate, on a national level, the one-year anniversary of the July Uprising—InshAllah. We also hope that by August, the first verdict in the trial of the autocrat and murderer Hasina will be delivered. InshAllah, we will not lose—we cannot be defeated,” he concluded.
